Challenges

allcasting is a subscription service for applying for casting calls across roles such as modelling, commercials, TV shows and more.

Casting calls are often held in-person making location a crucial factor in what roles to serve to users in campaigns, along with the need to highlight jobs by popularity, new and expiring jobs, preferences.

Initially the team built the solution in-house but this created a number of challenges:

  • The internal platform created the full HTML email making it difficult to amend copy or improve design choices
  • Marketing lacked any control over the targeting, journeys or A/B testing without internal code changes
  • Internal IT teams had the burden of supporting and maintaining a system that needed to serve millions of recommended casting calls per day

Solution

Using Reignite the internal solution could be replaced and the full power of Iterable, their marketing automation platform could be exploited.

A range of recipes were created in Reignite for different segments such as paid users versus prospects. 

Within each recipe a number of rules are used to filter and rank by location, age, casting call popularity, recency, past interaction activity and to ensure no more than one role from the same casting call is shown.

Each email has a lead recommendation which is also used to populate the subject line. Underneath a number of alternative secondary casting call recommendations are shown. Multiple subject lines are tested against each of these to find the one that drives the highest engagement.

Key to success was the ability to support the high frequency with many campaigns sent per day to users. A number of recency rules were used to ensure roles were not repeated until other relevant options had been exhausted.

Integration in Iterable was simple - simply connecting the Reignite data feed to the template which returned the results with associated data such as imagery, titles and links for populating the email.

Results

allcasting along with their sister brand Kidscasting successfully migrated their internal system to Reignite to power over 12M casting call recommendations per day.

This gave marketing greater control over all aspects of the campaigns including the ability to run their own A/B tests in Iterable to find opportunities for performance increases. One of these recent tests has led to a 5.5% increase in new subscriptions from tweaking a few rules within the personalised recipes.
